Colorful Summer Garden Wedding at Christianson’s Nursery
Jenna and Skyler planned the sweetest early August wedding at Christianson’s Nursery in Mount Vernon, Washington. The venue, with its lush gardens, greenhouse, and historic 1888 Schoolhouse, was perfect for these two. They fell in love with the front of the Schoolhouse, considering they are both teachers, and “the plants, flowers, and greenery at Christianson’s sealed the deal” for them that this is the spot they were meant to get married.
The two chose to do a first look and read their vows privately before reading them again in front of their loved ones. Skyler stood inside the Schoolhouse and “hung out” with George Washington (there was a painting of him directly on the wall he was facing), while he waited for Jenna to walk up the stairs and tap him on his shoulder. Wedding days usually move so fast, so having such a sweet and quiet moment in Schoolhouse with just the two of them was so special.
Polaroids from their day
Along with my two camera bodies, I have my Instax camera hooked to my camera harness to snap some casual photos photos too :) Polaroids just feel so special because they’re imperfect and real.
The day was full of sweet, playful, candid moments. Whether it was laughing with their wedding party or Skyler’s request for a photo with the nursery’s alpaca, every shot felt personal and full of joy. Matching the beautiful flowers at the venue, Jenna’s grandma created all the bouquets for Jenna and her bridesmaids. Each bridesmaid’s bouquet had a special color palette, and Jenna’s bouquet was a mixture of all her girl’s flowers. Every detail of their day was so thoughtful & sweet — even Gusto Woodfire Pizza surprised the couple with a heart-shaped pizza—which matched the level of thoughtfulness & care Jenna & Skyler put into the day.
Why Christianson’s Nursery is the best place to get married
Christianson’s Nursery just has this magic to it — it’s the perfect place to get married, take portraits rain or shine, or spend an afternoon looking for new plants to bring home. What I love so much about this venue is the fact that couples can come back to the spot they got married anytime, which is something you wouldn’t be able to do at other places. It feels like you’re stepping into a storybook the moment you walk in and see the vines growing up the wall of the Schoolhouse. And something that really represented the magic for me was that as the sun set, the light blue sky turned cotton candy pink, matching their wedding colors perfectly.
A few Disposable 35mm Film Photos
I bought a Kodak M38 camera that is basically a reusable film camera over the summer. I decorated it with all my branding elements & took it with me on all my own adventures. I realized it was in my camera bag at Jenna & Skyler’s wedding and thought it’d be SO fun to take a few film photos too. Like the Polaroids, they’re imperfect and real, and they capture how the day feels in a whole different way than digital photos do!
So grateful :)
Here’s a photo of me smiling so big after Jenna & Skyler’s wedding. They sent me home with a few bud vases too!! If love flowers and gardens, historic buildings, and cute animals, Christianson’s is the perfect venue for you. Whether you’re getting married or wanting portraits taken somewhere magical, this place is perfect & I’d be HONORED to be your photographer :)
