My top 3 Favorite Couples poses
Many couples express feeling nervous about getting their photos taken and tell me how awkward they are. That feeling is SO VALID. If I’m not holding a camera or a guinea pig when someone takes my photo, I tense up. My tummy hurts just thinking about it. It’s a lot of pressure. No matter how awkward you think you are, if you show up to your shoot ready to be silly, giggle, and have a good time, the photos won’t feel or look awkward at all.
A few tips to ease awkwardness:
The best advice I can give you is to keep moving and focus on your partner.
Interact with your person as much as possible. Hold onto them, look at them, play with their hair, squeeze them tight — do whatever you normally do.
I’ll prompt you with actions & keep you moving.
I know that when I’m feeling nervous, I like to prepare and think about what the plan is & start imagining what I’ll do.
Here are my top 3 favorite couples poses that I pinky promise we will do at your session.
1.Hold hands and walk towards me
Look around, look at each other, look at me.
Why I love this pose
I like to start our session with this prompt and keep coming back to it throughout our shoot because it’s easy & we get lots of cute candids. It’s low stakes and helps us loosen up. Capturing photos of you two walking together & exploring feels like such a perfect representation of this journey you’re on — just strolling through this big beautiful life together.
2. Hug Attack
This is my favorite pose of all time because it’s so silly and gets us giggling — which is what I love.
How to Do a Hug attack:
Partner 1 will stand and face me.
Partner 2 will take a few steps back and will “sneakily” run up from behind and surprise Partner 1 with a big hug.
I like to tell Partner 2 to be super silly when they “hug attack” Partner 1.
For example: big kisses on the cheek, tickles, lifting Partner 1 up, etc. Whatever feels right in the moment.
Then we’ll switch and Partner 1 will hug attack Partner 2 :)
3. Snuggle in close & smile at me :)
We get a lot of candid & movement with other poses, so I want to make sure we get a good smiley one at me, but we still gotta make it silly and wholesome.
How to do this pose
Snuggle into a nice big hug, but smoosh your cheeks together and smile right at me. This just feels so lovey dovey and cutesy. From there we’ll move back into some more candid poses & I’ll have you two look at each other and then do whatever feels natural after that — a smooch, hug, kiss on the cheek, etc.
Takeaways to remember at your session
Show up to your session open-minded & ready to be silly.
Keep moving as much as possible. The more you move, the less tense and awkward you’ll feel. You don’t have to move fast, but look around, play with your hair, your outfit, rock back & forth, etc.
Focus more on your cute partner, & less on me. Hold their hand, rub their arm, look at them, interact the way you normally do. The photos will feel more authentic to you & your relationship this way :)
I hope after reading through these and seeing examples helps you feel super confident and ready to be the cutest couple ever at your session with me!!
